Individuals and businesses in parts of Missouri affected by severe storms and other recent weather-related catastrophes that began on March 14, 2025, may now qualify for tax relief. A disaster declaration issued by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) enables the IRS to postpone certain tax filing and payment deadlines for those who live or own a business within the designated disaster area. For certain deadlines falling on or after March 14 and before November 3, 2025, taxpayers will be given additional time to file.

What is the Extended Tax Return and Payment Date?
Qualifying taxpayers will have until November 3, 2025, to make tax payments and file federal individual and business tax returns. This deadline applies to returns and payments that would normally fall due on April 15. It also applies to 2024 IRA and health savings account contributions. Estimated tax payments, which are normally due on April 15, June 16 and September 15, 2025, are also covered by the relief package.
How are Businesses Impacted by Tax Relief?
Affected businesses can also qualify for the extended deadline, impacting the following payroll and return deadlines:
- Quarterly payroll and excise tax returns usually due April 30, July 31, and Oct. 31, 2025
- Calendar-year partnership and S-corporation returns typically due March 17, 2025
- Calendar-year corporation and fiduciary returns and payments normally due April 15, 2025
- Calendar-year tax-exempt organization returns ordinarily due May 15, 2025
Penalties for payroll and excise tax deposits due between March 14 and March 31, 2025, will be abated if the deposits were made by March 31.
If you receive a late filing or payment penalty notice from the IRS with an original filing, payment or deposit date within the postponement period, call the telephone number on the notice so the penalty can be abated.
The IRS automatically identifies qualifying taxpayers within the covered disaster area and applies the filing and payment relief. If you live or own a business outside of the covered area, call the IRS toll-free number, 866-562-5227, to request tax relief.
Missouri State Disaster Tax Relief
For the designated areas listed above, Missouri taxpayers with tax deadlines falling on or after March 14 and before November 3, 2025 will have additional time to file. The extension lasts until November 3 and applies to the following:
- Income tax returns and payments for individuals normally due April 15, 2025
- Any estimated tax payments typically due April 15, June 15 and September 15, 2025
- Tax returns for calendar-year partnerships and S corporations usually due March 17, 2025
- Quarterly payroll and excise tax returns normally due April 30, July 31 and October 31, 2025
Important: Missouri doesn’t automatically apply extensions to qualifying taxpayers. You’ll need to file Form MO-60 or Form MO-7004 (Application for Extension of Time to File). Write “disaster extension to November 3, 2025” on the form and at the top of the relevant return while filing. If you’re filing electronically, you’ll have to contact the Department of Revenue directly to request an extension at income@dor.mo.gov.
