Every year, Anders nominates and selects one charity to support throughout the year as the firm’s Charity of Choice. The votes are in and for 2021, our Charity of Choice is The Child Center! Now in its 16th year, the Charity of Choice program combines fundraising activities and volunteer efforts to support the nominated organization. Charities are submitted by members of the firm, and all members of the firm, from interns to partners, have the opportunity to vote for their choice each January. The winner is then revealed at our all-firm meeting. In 2020, despite the pandemic and the cancellation of many events, Anders was still able to donate over $7,000 to Partners for Pets, a local animal rescue organization.
Dan Mudd, a tax partner at Anders, serves on the board and as treasurer for The Child Center and nominated the organization for our 2021 Charity of Choice. The Child Center is a child advocacy center (CAC) serving children and families in Northeast Missouri. A comprehensive, coordinated approach is taken in response to allegations of child sexual and physical abuse occurring in a 14 county service area.
While activities such as Pick Me Up Carts, busy season games and volunteer activities are held throughout the year, the first major Anders fundraising event will be the annual “Hoops for Hope” NCAA March Madness basketball pool, which draws participation from clients, colleagues, referral sources and friends of the firm from all over the country. While the event was canceled last year, the NCAA has already announced their intention of playing the tournament in 2021. We are looking forward to once again supporting our charity through this fun event.
In addition to The Child Center, other beneficiaries of the Anders Charity of Choice program have included Partners for Pets, the Saint Louis Crisis Nursery, Angels’ Arms, Shriners Hospitals for Children – St. Louis, Stray Rescue of St. Louis, Friends of Kids with Cancer, Basket of Hope, Young Friends of Habitat for Humanity, Nurses for Newborns, Girls on the Run, Lafayette Industries, KidSmart, Re-Building Together and Kids Under Twenty-One (KUTO). Anders has raised over $337,000 in the past 16 years.
