Twenty-six years ago, Hoops for Hope was just an in-house basketball pool; today it is a major fundraiser, netting $8,000 for Anders’s 2012 Charity of Choice, Nurses for Newborns (NFN). Members of the Nurses for Newborns staff joined Anders this month for an appreciation lunch and to present the check to NFN.
Hoops for Hope, Anders’s NCAA basketball pool draws participation from Anders clients, colleagues, referral sources and friends of the firm from all over the U.S. Craig Campbell, CPA, tax partner, started the pool and remains the organizer. He is assisted by a large contingent of Anders staff who set-up the online pool, market it and count the proceeds. This year, Campbell upped the ante with a “Triple-Diamond MEGA Platinum Sponsor” opportunity. Anders had an overwhelming response to the sponsorship idea and exceeded expectations. Several sponsors were also in attendance at the appreciation luncheon.
Every year the proceeds grow, and this year was no different with all the funds going to NFN. The top 15 finishers earned a prize, with Anders and the sponsors donating the prizes, which this year included a variety of electronic devices and sports and entertainment tickets.
Each January, members of the firm vote on a Charity of Choice and work throughout the year to support the organization through dress-down days, penny wars and other fundraising events. Hoops for Hope is the largest of those efforts.
Nurses for Newborns exists to provide a safety net for families most at-risk in order to prevent infant mortality, child abuse and neglect by providing in-home nursing visits which promote healthcare, education, and positive parenting skills. Donna Erbs, Marketing Director at Anders is a member of the Nurses for Newborns Board of Directors.
