St. Louis Cardinals Win On and Off the Field
The St. Louis Cardinals were just named the most profitable team in baseball by Forbes. They reported the highest operating income of all MLB teams in 2014 at $73.6 million.
Even though St. Louis is considered one of baseball’s smallest markets, the Cardinals are valued at $1.4 billion with $294 million in annual revenue.
Much of that success has come since the DeWitt family took ownership, which has translated into success on the field as well. In the 19 seasons they’ve owned the team, the Cardinals have gone to the playoffs 12 times, winning four pennants and two World Series and have played in four consecutive National League Championships. The success is expected to continue as ESPN Magazine has picked the 2015 team to again win the NL Central division.
