The manufacturing industry is beginning to show signs of recovery. This is especially true in the St. Louis area. What better time to think about how to strengthen your company than when the manufacturing industry is rebuilding and growing. A look into the numbers shows nearly 6 million manufacturing jobs were lost in the U.S. from January 2000 to December 2009, but beginning January 2010, the industry added nearly 500,000 jobs over the past two years.
The manufacturing industry is critical to economic growth, prosperity, and a higher standard of living. It creates the most wealth, and generally pays higher wages and provides greater benefits on average, than other industries. It also performs almost two-thirds of private sector research & development, creates the highest number of jobs to support the industry while serving the surrounding communities, and contributes to more than 50 percent of the country’s total exports.
