Now that the craze of Black Friday and Cyber Monday is over, it’s time to celebrate the next big unofficial holiday; #GivingTuesday, a day to celebrate generosity and give back to those who need it most during the holidays.

Giving Tuesday started in 2012 with a group of individuals who wanted to share the tradition of giving and by 2013 it had spread across the globe. The concept was simple, donate to an organization that you support and share your gift on Twitter to spread awareness of your cause and encourage others to give. The idea took off and in 2013 the hashtag #GivingTuesday raised millions of dollars for thousands of different non-profit organizations.

This year they have added a new element to the movement, the Giving Tower. The Giving Tower is a way to visualize the world’s donations coming together in the form of a holographic building. Every donation is represented by a brick that grows the tower, with the goal of making it the tallest building in the world.

Should you choose to participate in the #GivingTuesday trend this year, you can find more information at www.givingtuesday.org or download the Giving Tower app. Be sure to keep track of your donations for tax purposes!
